Yutagami, filled with history and tradition. The tsunagigaya (linked thatch plant) at Saint Shinran's famed temple of Ryogen-ji is one of Echigo's seven wonders. In addition, there is Chinjyuso, built in the 7th year of the Taisho Era by a wealthy farmer, which has a detached room said to be the work of Kakuhei Matsui, one of the top three traditional carpenters specialized in temple/shrine construction at the time. The beautiful style of the temple abundantly utilizes precious trees like the Japanese cypress and Yoshino cedar tree, and it harmonizes splendidly with the Kyoto-style dry landscaped garden. In the Gomado-yama ”Hydrangea Garden”, the yearly July blooming of 30,000 hydrangeas attracts visitors, with the pink and light purple colors pleasantly reflected amongst the green. The views are wonderful, making for the perfect hiking course.
